I have been a child care provider since the very young age of 14, and have always loved spending time with and teaching children. I began my own babysitting co-op at the age of 15 because I had more sitting jobs than I could handle. Later, I was a department secretary and dental assistant at Children's Hospital in Boston where we treated Special Needs children. Aside from the work environment there, I spent two evenings a week with those same afflicted children from 5 p.m. until bedtime: I assisted in food prep and fed dinner, was a learning skills, speech therapy coordinator and teacher, interacted one on one in playtime and story time, baths and bedtime activities, and on weekends often babysat for our doctors' children..... My husband and I had four children together, and in addition, we raised his two daughters from 10 and 12 years to adulthood. During our childrens' growing up years, I was a stay-at-home Mom, and tended other children in my home whose parents worked. Children have always been my favorite people. The magnetism goes both ways, creating a comforting bond. We had a foreign exchange student for a year while our children were high school age, and have maintained a very close relationship ever since. We found that to be a very rewarding experience, for our children, as well as for our student and ourselves. I was never a good "empty nester" when all of our kids were gone, and after many years in the field of custom builder real estate; - you guessed it! I went right back to spending my spare time with kids! In the last 9 years, since moving back to CO, I have been nanny to three little boys for six years (from newborn to 9 years of age), and have also been sitting for several families for their evenings out, weekend outings, etc. Currently, I take care of my three grandchildren three days a week, ages 5, 2 years and 1 year. We spend our days reading, learning, making "forts," crafts, baking, experimenting, singing, going to the park, zoo, science museum, practicing small household chores, etc. You can always count on unbiased, honest little people to keep a smile on your face and in your heart! I also find a great deal of pleasure spending time with the elderly. There's almost a common denominator from one end of the spectrum to the other, and WHERE can you hear such great stories!!!!
